Differences between VOF and Euler/Euler approach in multiphase CFD simulation with OpenFOAM
This simulation shows the differences between the VOF and Euler/Euler method in multiphase CFD. Parameters, boundary conditions and mesh are identical for both separator cases. The 3D mesh contains ~2,7 M cells.
While the VOF case predicts a larger mixing area of oil-water-air and a sharper phase interface, the Euler/Euler approach accounts for momentum exchange between the three phases via drag correlations.
