Grandmother (2010) dir. Yuki Kawamura

Grandmother death is an opportunity for each and everyone to reflect upon mourning, and beyond that, upon life, its multiple forms, its disappearance as well as its inexhaustible resources, and the signs of its infinite diversity. Life’s beauty is in water, mist and foam, in lichens and trees, in this grandmother’s dying face, and in her family’s care, affection and joking, in her children’s every word, every breath. Yuki Kawamura is born in 1979 in Sapporo, Japan. He began his career as a video artist, and the video works have shown at many international film festivals and museums. His first short film, Senko (2008), won the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. His second film, Grandmother (2009), was screened at the Torino International Film Festival, and won the Short film Award at the Cinéma du Réel in Paris. He directed his first feature documentary, Mirror of the Bride (2013), and he is currently developing his first feature film. He works and lives in Paris.
