Crazy Splitting Axe Restoration - (Better Than New)

This crazy splitting axe is called a chopper 1, they went into production around 1975 and are still available for purchase new today. It is designed so when the bit of the axe sinks in the two metal cogs bite into the log and force the wood in separate directions. If you pause the slo-mo at the end of the video you can actually see them shoot out and split the wood. It seems to me that these were either loved or hated, some people swore by them and other just believed it was a gimmick. From the short time I’ve had with it Its been excellent splitting the soft pine around my area. I picked this up at a local auctions and aside from a few patent drawings I couldn’t find much on how to accurately date it. Regardless it is still a cool vintage tool and I had a lot of fun doing the restoration.
