Two Gentlemen of Honour, A Commotion in Stop Motion (2012)
Amongst the more popular parlour games of the late Victorian and early Edwardian eras was ’Fighting’ or ’Scrapping’. After a formal dinner, the gentlemen would retire for several rounds of ’ass-kicking’ in the ’duelling room’ (later known as the ’drawing room’.)
It was on one such occasion that Oscar Wilde, having lost a Set-To to the Duke of Wall-Marsh, famously remarked:
“...if that bitch want to thrown down again, I’ll throw down. I’ll put the mother f@$&ing beat down on that skank-ass mother.“
In this, the first video in our series, Sir Leopold Humphrey-Humphries and his colleague Colin Table give a demonstration of some of the techniques employed in this once popular pass-time.
