This Week in History - Season 8 Episode 22: BC’s Doukhobor Community
A 1912 file about a Royal Commission looking into the Doukhobors immigration to Canada is of particular interest to Sally Butterfield, an archivist at the Royal BC Museum. “This was really exciting for me, because I’m from Grand Forks, so I went to school with a lot of people who are Doukhobors.“ Butterfield explains that “The Doukhobors are a religious sect that originate in Russia, and they came to Canada at the end of the 19th century because they were persecuted by the Russian government.“
