the sixty-one by extra deluxe mfg - a boutique midi controller

please support the channel: update: i’ve since discovered the pitch wheel on this keyboard outputs a stepped signal. for some synths and vsts this doesn’t seem to be a problem. for others it results in stepped pitch bending. as a result i cannot recommend this keyboard for performers. extra deluxe mfg have acknowledged my concern but not provided a remedy. see my followup video for more information: Steel and walnut construction Four assignable potentiometer knobs and latching octave knob Assignable mod wheel Assignable sustain pedal USB or IEC power MIDI in and out via 5 pin MIDI ports and/or USB piano: 8dio legacy 1928 thru valhalla delay bass: uvi ultramini thru valhalla delay pad: uvi cs-m thru valhalla delay sequencing/tracking/mixing - steinberg cubase 10 the sixty-one by extra deluxe mfg is a boutique 61-key midi controller. for years i’ve searched for a well-built midi controller that plays nice with a computer and doesn’t have a hundred features i’d never use. at last somebody made one and i can actually buy it. from top to bottom this is a professional product; even down to the packaging. the box was sturdy, packed well and covered with a tasteful design. the accessories envelope included all the cables you’d need; and nice quality cables at that. a poster instruction manual and a blank notebook were included as well. the controller itself is housed in a wood and metal chassis and weighs . the wood is a beautiful dark stain and smells pleasant. the synth-action fatar keybed includes velocity and aftertouch and feels very nice; not too heavy, not too light, not too noisy. the pitch and mod wheels move smoothly and are made of metal. the control knobs are smooth and solid. the octave switch is sturdy and clicky but not hard to move. on the back you have power, usb, midi in/out and a pedal connection. the keyboard can be usb or mains powered. the top control panel is cc customizable via a free app on the extra deluxe mfg website. all other settings (midi channel, aftertouch, velocity curve, etc.) are customizable via that app as well. no drivers are required whatsoever. just plug in and go. the sixty-one is by no means cheap but i feel it fully warrants the price. build quality is superb. setup is a breeze. it is built well and built to last. a midi channel switch would be useful but in my setup unnecessary. i’d like to have been able to choose a 49-key model but currently only a 61-key model is being produced. all in all i have no honest complaints. as extra deluxe mfg is a small company and appears to do very little advertising i wanted to make this video and help get the word out. this is the only product they make and they make it right. check them out if you’re interested: disclaimer: keyboard was purchased out of pocket for music production purposes
