“Lilly Bell Quickstep“ from ’Gangs of New York’ (2002) - Early Band Scene

Gangs of New York (2002) Directed by Martin Scorsese Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis, Cameron Diaz Production by Touchstone Pictures, Miramax Films Buena Vista Pictures Distribution --- “Lilly Bell Quickstep“ (c. 1853) Written by GWE Friederich Unknown performers and on-screen actors “Lilly Bell Quickstep“ was composed by GWE Friederich and published as a part of Firth, Pond, & Co.’s (New York) 1853-4 publication, the Brass Band Journal. Although many of the songs in the collection are adaptations of Stephen Foster songs, this quickstep appears to be an original composition by Friederich. This song is used approximately five times throughout the film, but this scene is the only time a band is shown on screen. The performing ensemble is unknown, but it is likely that the on-screen depiction uses non-musician actors. The instruments used on-screen do not match those that would have been used during the period. This film takes place in New York in 1863. --- You can now support the show on Patreon a
