“HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU“ В СТИЛЕ РАХМАНИНОВА / IN THE STYLE OF RACHMANINOV

Сегодня, 1го апреля, исполнилось 149 лет со Дня Рождения Сергея Васильевича Рахманинова. По этому поводу я сочинил обработку мелодии “Happy birthday to you“ как бы в рахманиновском стиле)) Она не является вполне точной стилизацией, как в случае с моими обработками в позднескрябинском стиле, так как здесь фактура проще, чем была бы у Рахманинова (без подголосков и виртуозных фигураций). Но всё же ощущения от её прослушивания в достаточной степени “рахманистичны“: здесь звучат характерные для него гармонии, а также проводится длительная мелодическая линия. Она - как большая  волна - зарождается, расширяется, достигает вершины и затем постепенно успокаивается, оканчиваясь катарсическим аккордом где-то в глубине - словно выдох рассеивается после глубокого вдоха... И также я был бы совсем уж не Рахманиновым)), если бы не использовал здесь его излюбленный мотив средневековой секвенции Dies irae, (григорианский распев “День гнева“): в определённый момент этот грозный мотив в басу соединяется одновременно с темой “Happy birthday“ в верхнем голосе (найдёте-услышите это место?)) Учитывая, что Рахманинов - создатель одних из самых мрачных произведений (большинство его сочинений крупной формы так или иначе касаются похоронной, шабашной и апокалипсичной образной сферы), есть некоторая ирония в том, что этот самый “непервоапрельский“ композитор, родившись 20 марта по старому стилю календаря, с переходом на новый стиль считается теперь родившимся 1го апреля - в день, который сейчас ассоциируется с “днём смеха“ и шутками. Думаю, что Сергей Васильевич как раз оценил бы этот своеобразный чёрный юмор с использованием “темы Апокалипсиса“ в поздравлении ему. Он бы мог пошутить: “Ну вот, ещё на один год именинник стал ближе к концу света“ )) _ _ _ _ _ Today, April 1st, was the 149th anniversary of the Birth of Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninov. On this occasion, I composed a creative piano cover of the melody “Happy birthday to you“ as if in Rachmaninov style)) It is not a completely accurate stylization, as in the case of my covers in the late Scriabin style, since the texture here is simpler than it would have been in Rachmaninov’s (without sub-voices and virtuosic figurations). But still, the sensations from listening to it are sufficiently “Rachmanistic“: the harmonies characteristic of him sound here, and a long melodic line is also extended. It is like a big wave - it originates, expands, reaches the top and then gradually calms down, ending with a cathartic chord somewhere in the depths - as if the exhalation dissipates after a deep breath... And also I wouldn’t be Rachmaninov at all)) if I didn’t use here his favorite motif of the medieval sequence Dies irae, (Gregorian chant “Doomsday“): at a certain moment, this menacing motif in the bass simultaneously connects with the theme “Happy birthday“ in the upper voice (will you find-hear this place?)) Considering that Rachmaninov is the creator of some of the darkest works (most of his large compositions somehow relate to the funeral, sabbath and apocalyptic figurative sphere), there is some irony in the fact that the most “non-April-1st“ composer, born on March 20 according to the old Julian calendar, with the transition to a new calendar in 1918 in Russia is now considered born on April 1st - on the day that is now associated with the “day of laughter“ and jokes. I think that Sergei Vasilyevich would just appreciate this kind of black humor with the use of the “theme of the Apocalypse“ in congratulating him.
