Robert Schumann - Symphony no. 4 in D MInor, Opus 120 (1851)
Wolfgang Sawallisch conducting the Staatskapelle Dresden (1973)
------------------
This version, according to Clara Schumann, this was the only completed version of the symphony. It was sketched in 1841 and orchestrated 10 years later, in 1851. However, Johannes Brahms discovered that the 1841 ’sketch’ was actually orchestrated, but it’s lighter in orchestration and has minor differences than in the 1851 version. Robert Schumann apparently heavily revised the symphony in 1851. Despite Clara’s objections to publishing the 1841 version, Brahms still published it.
