Norman Evans (1937)

Comedian Norman Evans, who appeared at the last command performance. MUSIC Artist’s Own Music. Probably filmed in Pathe studios, London. M/S of Norman finishing a song at the piano, he is in evening dress. He stands up and introduces one of his characters, Joe Ramsbottom, helping the public “to stop that tickling cough.“ He bows and the scene fades to show men in cloth caps sat in the audience and Norman dressed in coat and cloth cap with a very small, false moustache. He speaks in a wheezing, northern accent and takes out a small box of pills, his sales pitch is interrupted by his strange high pitched cough. He says the pills are guaranteed to cure any ’itis’. He tries to take one but coughs and drops the pill before successfully swallowing one. His voice changes to be deeper and stronger.
