Fashions In Hats With Coral Browne (1944)

Actress Coral Browne models a beautiful Edwardian style hat and dress. She sits in front of a mirror arranging the veil of the hat. Narrator suggests that this is a costume she wears in the play “The Last of Mrs Cheyney“ in which she appears with Jack Buchanan. Various shots of the actress including C/Us of her head to show off the hat. Coral also models a parasol. Coral is then seen walking through a park in a modern outfit and hat. The hat has been specially designed for the actress by Swedish designer Aage Thaarup. The hat is a dark straw with ostrich feathers and a black veil. Narrator states: “When women get free of uniform, Thaarup says, they will want to escape from utility to romance. No more streamlining, but ostrich feathers, velvet bows and flowers, to give a touch of mystery, helped by sloping shoulder lines and narrow waists.“ Low angle shot of Coral with Big Ben behind her as she turns her head to show off the hat.
