The Electric Tongue! (1933)

Titles read: “The Electric Tongue! Here’s the latest Scientific marvel, an instrument which records the presence of acid, by sound!“ New York, United States of America. President OH Caldwell of the New York Electrical Society stands before a complicated-looking machine and explains that the machine can taste and register the flavours of different kinds of fruit, giving out the relevant sound through a loudspeaker. He puts a pronged dial leading from the machine into an apple and we hear a medium-pitched sound. He does the same with a banana, an orange and “a lowly lemon“, each producing a higher sound than the last - it’s very funny! A piece of strong cheese sounds like someone breaking wind.
