Parachute Packing (1952)

Parachute packing by girls from the Women’s Royal Air Force. Duxford, Cambridgeshire. C/U parachutes hanging up. M/S as Leading Aircraftwoman Lynn Thompson selects one and pulls it down. M/S as she spreads it out on a long table. M/S as she pulls the cords and walks back. M/S shaking parachute out. Various shots as Lynn folds the chute in a precise way, she places bags of lead shot to hold it in position. M/S as Jean Madgifotts opens the guide ’chute. C/U of it on the table. She folds the ’chute and places the bags on to hold it. M/S and C/U as she packs cords, C/U of packed ’chute on table. Various shots of packing and folding. M/S as Lynn and Jean walk past jet plane, they stop at one and Jean climbs into the cockpit. Lynn hands her the parachute which she stows in the cockpit. M/S as she fixes another pack into position. M/S as Jean gets out of cockpit and pilot climbs in. The ladies stand by and watch the jet take off. L/S jet doing “Barrel roll“ and flying away from camera. FIL
