Here is Kim Edgar’s take on the traditional ballad, The Twa Magicians, from which a fragment of the lyrics were found in “Last Leaves of Traditional Ballads and Ballad Airs“ collected in Aberdeenshire by Gavin Greig, published in 1925, and set to new music.
Kim based the remaining lyrics on the summary of the story “of a blacksmith who importunately woos a lady. To escape him she turns herself into many the suitor has the same chameleon faculty, and contrives to counter each metamorphosis by another that fits it.“ However, Kim re-imagines a different ending to the story than the traditional one, where the lady is nailed down and has to remain as a ship forever...
