Pretérito Perfecto is a widely used grammatical tense that is similar to Present Perfect in English and allows you to talk about recent events or events that affect the present situation, as well as your life experiences (if you don’t mention when exactly you had them). There are certain “markers“ to look out for, time words that will help you understand that you need to use Pretérito Perfecto, e.g.:
- hoy/esta mañana/esta tarde/esta noche/esta semana, etc.;
- últimamente/recientemente/hace un rato/hace cinco minutos, etc.;
- ya, todavía/aún no;
- nunca/alguna vez/siempre/una vez/muchas veces, etc.;
In order to use a verb in this tense, you need to take the verb ’’haber’’ (he, has, ha, hemos, habéis, han) in the correct form and add the past participle of the action verb (-ado, -ido), e.g. “He estudiado español esta semana“.
