This video shows step-by-step how to create a DIY electric train with different types carriages out of cardboard, craft foam and RC parts. I had some RC electric motor parts and gears lying around and wanted to see if I can come up with a design for a little DIY electric train that can also pull some carriages.
I decided to use cardboard for the body because its so easy to use and readily available then decorated it a little bit with craft foam which gives each carriage a different color theme. Hot glue was perfect for these materials and adheres well. The craft foam was also used to give the wheels some grip and create a wheel spoke look which fits well with the steam locomotive design.
The train runs on a DC electric motor powered by a 9-volt battery. A large gear helps the motor to apply more torque to the wheels, so it can pull up to 3 carriages of the design shown in this video. I show how to make different train carriages in this video as well include a passenger carriage and a coal wagon
