The epicenter was at a depth of 11 km, 15 km east of the town of Progreso. Tremors were felt in the Panamanian provinces of Chiriqui and Bocas del Toro and the Puntarenas province in Costa Rica. Two and a half hours later, a second earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred. The earthquake caused concern among local residents. On social networks, eyewitnesses share footage of the natural disaster. Furniture shook in the houses and objects fell from shelves. Some residents woke up and left their homes. There were no reports of serious damage.
