Earth horizon curve simulation (With atmosphere, 360° virtual reality)

A simulation to show how curved the Earth’s horizon appears at different altitudes. Drag or tilt your device to look around. This version has atmospheric light scattering. Altitude: The camera’s distance from the ground. Horizon distance: The direct distance from the camera to the horizon. Distance on surface: The distance from the surface point directly below the camera along the surface to the horizon. Dip angle: The angle between eye level and the horizon. Earth visible: The percentage of the Earth visible from this altitude. Rendered in POV-Ray. Source texture: Reto Stöckli, NASA Earth Observatory. Music:
