From the mid to late 90s, the music of Mike Carss (aka Altus) wasn’t at all ambient, instead inspired by the work of artists such as Orbital and Spice Lab. This isn’t the first time Mike’s delved back to his roots. Albums such as Crossroads [with trx] (2010) and select tracks from ECOTONE (2011) share glimpses of these earlier creations. In the case of Descender, there’s additional influence at play, albeit not musical in nature. The track titles will either have meaning to you, or not. Rest assured this knowledge isn’t needed to fully enjoy the music. It’s just a wink to those who know.
