Iceland Volcano Eruption Update; Large Eruption Begins, Lava Flowing Towards Blue Lagoon

A large volcanic eruption just began on Iceland’s populated Reykjanes peninsula, sending lava flows towards the Blue Lagoon & the Svartsengi Geothermal Power Plant. While these two regions are protected by lava walls, lava is still likely to block off two major roads. Currently, a 4 kilometer or approximately 13,000 foot long fissue is erupting lava along its entire length at a high rate. This eruption is likely to continue for at least another 7 days, as discussed in today’s video. Thumbnail Photo Credit: Frame grab from the afarTV livestream at Used with Permission.
