Taking Stock of U.S. Counterterrorism Efforts Since 9/11

Lt. Gen Michael K. Nagata, the director of strategic operational planning at the National Counterterrorism Center since May 2016, discussed the status of U.S. counterterrorism efforts since 9/11 and suggested several innovations to strengthen this work, particularly to prevent radicalization and to combat online messaging. Previously, Gen. Nagata served as commander of Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT), and participated in the first two years of combat operations against the Islamic State.
