The Impact of Colonization in South Asia by Prof. Dr. George Hart

This lecture will explore the impact of colonization on social identity construction in South Asia. The impact of colonization is seen in how South Asians understand their own history and see their place in human history. The need to create ‘scientific’ basis for religion is one dimension to how humanities in South Asia continue to be incumbered by the colonial experience. Dr. Hart has written extensively on premodern Tamil, its relationship to classical Sanskrit, and South Indian religion and culture. He has also translated several important works from Tamil, and his work was nominated for The American Book Award.
