Tehran’s International Targets: Assessing Iranian Terror Sponsorship

During a speech at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, State Department ambassador-at-large and coordinator for counterterrorism Nathan Sales announced that the U.S. was designating Jawad Nasrallah, son of Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, a terrorist. The U.S. also blacklisted Al-Mujahidin Brigades (AMB), for links to Hezbollah. The address was part of the Institute’s Jeanette and Eli Reinhard Program on Counterterrorism and Intelligence Lecture Series. Nathan Sales is the ambassador-at-large and coordinator for counterterrorism at the State Department. A tenured law professor, he previously served as deputy assistant secretary for policy at the Department of Homeland Security, where he led efforts to strengthen and expand the Visa Waiver Program. He also worked on counterterrorism policy in the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Policy.
