Trying to Paint Softer | Portrait Practice

John Singer-Sargent is one of the most famous American portrait artists, and rightfully so. His skill is something to be admired. When looking at some of his work, I noticed how soft he could define features of the face and I decided I wanted to have a go at this style of painting. Given that this is my first time doing something like this, I tried not to put too much pressure on myself to make it perfect. The goal was just to try something new and learn, which I think I achieved. I see that I am getting faster at doing portraits and can recognize significant improvement over these past couple of years. The knowledge I am learning is also translating to multiple mediums, which is pretty cool. Upcoming are some bigger projects; soon, I’ll probably share some of the preparation work that I did for a painting I am currently working on.
