Mikhail Gorbachev meets with Margaret Thatcher 8 December 1987

Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev met briefly with Margaret Thatcher at RAF Brize Norton en route to the IMF Sumit with President Regan 7/8 December 1987. London observers say that although she was not in Washington for the sessions between Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and President Ronald Reagan this side trip showed that Moscow recognised Mrs. Thatcher’s position as unofficial spokesman for the European side of the Western alliance.
