Lets talk about the WZ-7 high altitude drone of china which is often regarded as the most advanced and largest drone held in the Chinese inventory. The Chinese Guizhou WZ-7 is a high-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle designed by the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group and developed by the Guizhou Aircraft Industry Corporation for PLA Navy and Air Force. Previously codenamed as Soaring Dragon, the UAV has similar role and mission capabilities to the RQ-4 Global Hawk of U.S Air Force. The UAV is designed to conduct high-altitude reconnaissance missions and to provide targeting data for cruise missiles and anti-ship ballistic missiles. The WZ-7 is larger in size than the standard UAVs and features tandem joined-wing design so is to enhance its lift-to-drag ratio. The engine is mounted in the rear of the UAV with intakes mounted atop the fuselage. Powered by a Soviet origin Guizhou WP-13 turbojet engine of 9700 lbf thrust, the drone features less complex flight controls than the standard HALE UAVs. The WZ-7 is one of the largest reconnaissance drones in the world and is 100% made-in-china. It has length of meter, wingspan of meter and height of meter. The WZ-7 HALE UAV has range of 7000 km and cruise speed of 750 km/h. With the combat range of 2000 km, the drone has endurance of 10 hours. It has service ceiling of 18000 meter. The WZ-7 can provide precision guidance to the Chinese DF-21D Anti-Ship Ballistic Missile. Reportedly, the drone is used by China to keep an eye on the Western Pacific, Taiwanese defense forces and Japanese naval assets. - All contents on Miltech Insights are presented for educational, critic and news reporting purposes. - The appearance of visual / audio information does not contain endorsement of Chinese MoD, Chinese PLA Forces, U.S. DoD or any other country of organization.
