It was 1,200 years ago when Yeon Deung Hoe began lantern-watching during the Silla Kingdom(57BC-935AD). It continued intoYeon Deung Hoe of the Goryeo era(918-1392) to GwandeungNori of the Joseon Dynasty(1393-1910), carrying on its tradition to these days. Presently, this festival is designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and is Korea’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage. By lighting a lantern, we brighten our minds.
