Are airdrops an effective way to deliver humanitarian assistance to Gaza? | Inside Story

The United States has become the latest country to airdrop humanitarian aid into Gaza. As fears of famine increase and for the first time, the US airforce parachuted in more than 30,000 meals - with the promise of more to come. But aid agencies are critical, saying military airlifts are not the answer. Instead, they want Israel to open more border crossings to allow trucks to drive in. Israel is accused of limiting aid deliveries - despite warnings that many are starving to death. The aid that does get in, is not nearly enough for around two and a half million Palestinians in Gaza. To complicate the crisis, Israel’s constant military bombardment makes it difficult and dangerous for aid to be distributed. So how effective are air drops?
