Echoes In Time: The Evolution Of The Native American Flute
Hello and welcome, friends and fellow flute enthusiasts! I’m excited to invite you on a captivating journey through time and melody in my latest video, “Echoes In Time: Evolution of the Native American Flute.“
We’ll begin with the Breckenridge Flute, one of the earliest known flutes that dates back to 1020-1160 CE. This iconic instrument was crafted from a single piece of river cane and serves as a testament to the creativity and craftsmanship of our ancestors.
Next, we’ll explore the Beltrami Flute, which was collected by Italian explorer Giacomo Costantino Beltrami in 1823. This flute marks a significant shift in materials from rivercane to wood, and its intricate carvings are a sight to behold.
Our journey continues with the distinctive Belo Cozad Flute. Crafted by Kiowa artist Belo Cozad in the early 1900s, this flute carries the unique sounds of Kiowa culture, designed to warble on the root note.
We’ll then delve into the work of Dr. Richard Payne
