Before the Holocaust, Jews made up one-third of Odessa, a city known for its multiculturalism. During WWII, the city was taken over by Romania, then a Nazi ally, and the Jewish population of the city was massacred. Over the course of a few days from October 22-24, 1941, tens of thousands Jewish civilians were brutally murdered by the Romanian military. It was known as the Odessa massacre. There was only one survivor – and he is still alive today. This is his message.
