Clashes as thousands of protesters condemn Israel’s attack on Rafah

Demonstrators took to the streets of the French capital on Monday to denounce an Israeli strike on a Rafah refugee camp which killed at least 45 people. The crowds could be seen waving Palestinian flags and banners, chanting and lighting flares. Some carried ‘Wanted’ posters of Macron, Biden and Olaf Scholtz. Local media estimate around 10,000 protesters marched through Paris, while similar demonstrations took place in Barcelona and Amsterdam. Clashes ultimately erupted between protesters and riot police, who used stun grenades and tear gas on the crowds as protesters fled to safety. Israel has attracted widespread condemnation for its attack on Rafah’s Tel Al-Sultan neighborhood, which they originally claimed targeted ‘Hamas leaders,’ and was later found to have killed civilians.
