El Salvador authorities burn pile of cocaine

Police in El Salvador have burned a huge pile of cocaine, worth an estimated $67.5 million, seized as part of their crackdown on drug trafficking in the country. The cocaine was seized back in May, more than 1,000 kilometers off the coast of El Salvador. Seven men were arrested as a result of the operation, and their haul disposed of on a giant bonfire in the town of Ilopango. President Nayib Bukele’s tenure has seen a widespread crackdown on drug gangs in El Salvador, with a state of emergency being declared and tens of thousands of suspected gang members arrested.
