HIMARS destroyed 40km from frontline in Ukraine

A Ukrainian HIMARS multiple launch rocket system has been destroyed in Ukraine by a Russian drone strike. The US-made and supplied rocket launchers have been used by Ukraine, usually with considerable publicity, to strike at a range at targets within Russian territory, often against civilians and civilian infrastructure. While many have been destroyed during the conflict, the drone video of the destruction of this particular HIMARS is the clearest footage released to date. The strike itself was carried out by an unspecified projectile, speculated to be a rocket from HIMARS’ Russian counterpart, the Tornado-S. The strike, which occurred in the Ukrainian-controlled town of Dobropolye some 40km north of the current front line, saw the HIMARS and two other vehicles hit by the rocket as the HIMARS was preparing to fire. The hit detonated the HIMARS ammunition stock, briefly and erratically launched its missile, and caused the total destruction of the launcher, the vehicles, and much of the surrounding area.
