Best experienced in 1080p, Youtube’s bitrate does not like this one.
Had the idea for this textured effect about a year ago and finally committed to buying the necessary colored pencils. Was originally just going to have the video be a side-by-side comparison of before and after, but as I was putting it together I thought it would be more fun to animate the layering process itself.
Planning to use this effect every now and again for animations that don’t have backgrounds.
Tried out a lot of new stuff:
- Animating in 1080p
- Syncing movements / transitions to music for the whole video
- Moving the focus around a lot: If you see anything change speed, frame rate, opacity, saturation, or position, it’s to either grab your attention or move it somewhere else.
- Two-character interactions: pretty similar to the previous item. Just like the inanimate objects here, mute characters are limited to visual cues to tell the viewer where to look next.
- Foregoing time charts and frame numbers: too confusing for the number of moving parts, much more efficient to wing it.
