Originally, this work was written as a piano piece and was included in Massenet’s cycle “Genre Pieces“ in 1866 (Op. 10) at number 5. Then Massenet transposed Elegy for cello. In 1876 Massenet published an arrangement for a large symphony orchestra. Finally, a text (Ô, doux printemps d’autrefois) was written to this melod
