Porcupine Tree - Acoustic In-Store, May 31, 1999, Virgin Records, Burbank, CA

My very first Porcupine Tree show ever. Had found about the band a few years earlier when I was on a Prog Rock internet Forum and after making a comment that there was no more good music being made, a record store owner sent my their “Signify” CD and told me to only pay him for it if I loved it.  I paid him.   When PT finally announced, they were coming to LA to at The House of Blues (opening for Magma in 1999,  we immediately got tix, and then they announced an in-store at Virgin Records in Burbank the day before.  So, we grabbed our video camera and headed 2 hours to LA for a chance to meet the band. It was great with a handful of about 25-30 in attendance. While filming, we both wanted to watch with our eyes, and didn’t look through the viewfinder enough so apologies for the blurriness at times. Halfway through the third song, “Baby Dream in Cellophane” Steven’s string broke and that was it. Oh well.   After that weekend I transposed the Hi-8 to video and added it to my trading list, where I made some nice trades for it. I had one very interesting trade though a few months later…   I opened my AOL email (remember that?) and got a message from none other than Steven Wilson himself asking for a copy and wanted to know what I’d trade for it! He wanted to see it and maybe use it for something, and I told him no trade was necessary and I would even take it off my trading list if he wanted me to. He was cool with it, but still wanted to trade.  I said a PT promo pic would be cool and I sent him a copy. About a month later I received a package from Delirium with an autographed Porcupine Tree promo pic and other goodies, which I still have today. Best trade ever.   When I am digitizing shows from my VHS, I always look to see if shows (and better quality) are already up on YouTube before I go through all the work.  It was a trip seeing this posted about 2 years ago my someone else (obviously someone I traded with way back when), but still trippy seeing something my wife and I videotaped on someone else’s channel.   Enjoy, our first Porcupine Tree show…   Setlist: Pure Narcotic A Smart Kid Baby Dream in Cellophane (String Cut)
