40th Anniversary of Beirut

40 years ago today, 220 Marines, 18 Sailors, and 3 Soldiers were killed in a bombing at the United States Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. The Marines were part of a multinational force of troops from the US, UK, France and Italy intent on fostering peace during the Lebanese Civil War. 58 French servicemen were also killed in the bombing. The sacrifice of our service members and the heroic efforts by Marines in the aftermath of the attack will never be forgotten. Fair Winds and Following Seas
