1st RECORDING OF: Mule Train - Buz Butler (1949)

Ellis “Buz” Butler made the earliest-recorded version of the huge late-1940s hit (it was especially successful for Frankie Laine that year ). Though it has been reported that Butler had first recorded “Mule Train“ in 1947, this Decca release from an October 1949 session is the earliest commercially-issued version by him that I have seen documented. F Laine, B Crosby, T E Ford, V Monroe, and G MacRae all recorded competing versions within three weeks after the Butler session.
