14 июля 1941 года в 10 часов утра батарея капитана Флерова сделала залп по врагу, расположившемуся на Базарной площади города Рудня, из боевой установки БМ-13. Стреляли с высокой горы. Крутой склон и породил у военных ассоциацию с высоким крутым берегом из песни Блантера на слова Исаковского «Катюша».
