GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Capitals () | Guentzel Scores

After a tough outing in Ottawa the night before, the Penguins had some positive news before this game: Sidney Crosby, Brian Dumoulin, Marcus Pettersson, and Chad Ruhwedel were activated from the NHL’s COVID-19 Protocol List. While back-to-back games are always difficult, adding players of that caliber into the lineup would at least put the other team on notice. But the Capitals were prepared. Fehervary scored a shorthanded tally to put the Capitals up relatively early, followed by a Hathaway goal to increase their lead to 2-0. Jake Guentzel was able to find the back of the net with under two minutes remaining in the opening frame, cutting the Capitals’ lead to 2-1. However, that is as close as the Penguins would make it. Over the next two periods, Sprong, Sheary, Kuznetsov, and Wilson would score for Washington. The Penguins are back in action at home on Tuesday, November 16 against the Buffalo Sabres.
