Super Typhoon Mawar Lands and Destroys Guam, USA! 170,534 People Without Power Guam residents, both military and civilian, took shelter in homes or makeshift shelters Wednesday afternoon as the eye of Cyclone Rose loomed off the island’s east coast. At 4 p.m., the typhoon was just 30 miles from Guam moving northwest between the island and Rota with winds of 138 mph and gusts of 167 mph, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. The typhoon is projected to pass 7 miles northeast of Andersen Air Force Base, on the northern edge of Guam, between 6 and 8 p.m. Strong winds there knocked down trees at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and parts of the base were without power at 2 p.m. Photo and video of the storm’s impact circulating on social media showed strong winds, heavy rain and fallen trees across the island, including at Andersen, Guam Naval Base and elsewhere. Staci Hutto, another Andersen resident, reported water leaking through the bottom of her front door. Taylor Dubuisson, suicide prevention coordinator for the Guam National Guard, predicted the weather would worsen. Thank you for watching my video.
