Olympian Eric Heiden Overslept For His Race After the Miracle on Ice

Olympic speed skater Eric Heiden remembers oversleeping for his 1000m race the day after watching the Miracle on Ice at the arena and recalls what it was like to sit right next to Al Michaels as he called the game. The ’Miracle on Ice’ refers to the 1980 US Olympic hockey team’s defeat of the Soviets on February 22nd and their winning Gold medal game against Finland two days later led by Coach Herb Brooks.
