Watercolour Tutorial - Realistic Feathers - Wren [Part 1]

In this live feed I will be painting the feathers of a wren in watercolour. I will show you how I work on top of the foundation wash with gradually increasing detail. At the same time I will be building the colour depth and the feeling of softness within the plumage. Every layer is obviously important, but getting the layers right underneath can really make or break a realistic painting. You need to constantly refer back to the reference photo and adjust the tones as you work. 🕒 Timestamps: 00:01:35 Using raw umber watercolour paint for the lightest layer of feather detail 00:12:10 My favourite brush - my size 00 00:18:20 My replicator (rake/comber) brush 00:27:04 The palette I prefer to use 00:32:36 How to make a replicator (rake/comber) brush 00:35:38 Adding burnt umber feather detail to build the depth of colour on the wren 00:38:25 Building the feather layers on the head to create a realistic, soft look 00:46:12 Adding the darkest feather layer 00:52
