This process can also be referred to as embossing or repousse. It is also sometimes referred to as forging, which is not entirely accurate as forging, by technical definition, involves heating metal and changing its shape through compression (hammering). This “beaten“ process can loosely be referred to as forging, in that a hammer is used to deform the sheet metal, thereby changing its shape.
