Score / sheet music of the earlier of two Te Deum settings in D of Zelenka, /Z. 145/.
Written around 1724, it is the most majestic and grand of the two Te Deum’s of Zelenka, which is set for SSATB chorus, chorus of trumpets, 2 oboes, strings and continuo. This Ambrosian hymn of thanksgiving in it’s grand setting conceived in several movements, was performed in court chapels in the 18th century, particularly on non liturgical occasions; for example, to mark political events such as military victories or peace treaties, or domestic celebrations in the rulers household - such as the weddings of christenings of members of the Elector’s family in Dresden.
Zelenka’s Te Deum is divided into 13 sections; nine choruses, 2 arias, a duet, and a Gregorian intonation “Salvum fac“ at the beginning of the second half, after the consecration of the Eucharist. Zelenka takes advantage of certain modern Italian practices - the concerted chorus
