Why is Chatsky from Griboyedov’s comedy “Woe from Wit“ considered crazy?

Why is Chatsky considered insane? Moscow. The young nobleman Alexander Chatsky arrives at the house of Famusov – a city official. Soon he discovers that his beloved Sophia has fallen in love with the careerist and hypocrite Molchalin. Chatsky is rumored to be out of his mind. The high society readily accepts this rumor as true, because Chatsky’s speeches seem shocking. Chatsky is disgusted with the values of Famusov’s society - careerism, hypocrisy, and menialism. Chatsky believes that it is necessary to be useful to people, not to live for the sake of a career and enrichment. He openly expresses his views, which irritates the tricksters, flatterers, and simpletons. This eventually makes him an outcast. Chatsky is one of the first characters in Russian literature, who so openly opposes high society. Griboyedov himself said of him: “My comedy has 25 fools for one sensible man. ____________________________ The clips have been created by the interregional public organization of large families “The Big Family“ with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund.
