Transgender Miss Universe Canada contestant Jenna Talackova disqualified

Jenna Talackova, a 23-year-old model from Vancouver, has been disqualified from the Miss Universe Canada pageant because she is transgender. Talackova had been selected as a finalist in the competition but was abruptly dropped when organizers learned she was born a man. The rules are said to stipulate that all entrants be “naturally born female[s],“ however the only requirements listed on the official Miss Universe Canada website have to do with citizenship and age.
