Vladimir Rebikov - Autour du Monde, Op.9

These 18 pieces were composed in 1898 and feature compositions which represent mainly cultural aspects of the countries Russia, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, America, Japan, China, India and Turkey. I like, that most pieces don’t sound too cliché but have an own, believable and natural feeling expression to them. At most i was surprised by the pieces from Japan, Turkey and China. I think Rebikov really took a lot from the cultures and learned main aspects. I like the pieces Vienne, Dans la grotte d`azure, Seguidillas, Siang keang long, Pontzi and Derviche the most. In the last piece I can really imagine the Derviches dancing around, trance like, with there flying clothes in the middle part. Seen in the context, I also like the last piece. To me it shows a nice ambivalence between being back at home, being exhausted and just being super happy about all the incredible experiences in the world. The end is shouting joy, to me.
