RMR had been making strong hip-hop for years, adroitly blending R&B, pop, rock, and future funk into a compelling mix that came from a dude who knew how to make moody tracks speak volumes. (He’s lately described his work as “Metro Boomin producing Def Leppard.“) 2020’s ‘Drug Dealing Is A Lost Art’ put him on a national radar and at the time we invited him to send us a performance of “Nuevo Riche” during the calamitous Covid year. Of course he sported his signature mask for the sesh - in the early part of RMR’s career, the ominous veil provided apt camouflage. But last fall, gearing up for the release of a new project, the singer decided to dump the disguise. The West African-born and Minnesota-bred creative hit LA’s Peppermint Lounge with nada covering his face. Fans got to see the real deal RMR for the first time. At the gig he played “Rings of Saturn” and other new tunes, several of which are part of his new album, ‘HERALD.’ Guess what?
