A Descarga is an improvised jam session consisting of variations on Cuban music themes, primarily son montuno, but also guajira, guaracha and rumba. The first variation is traditionally played in Son Montuno music. The second variation with the addition of a low-tuned conga drum can be used in other more modern styles or in choruses.
